In a country brimming with brilliant, educated, and forward-thinking youths, one has to ask: How do we keep ending up with leaders whose credentials and conduct don’t reflect the Nigeria we dream of?

Just yesterday, Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, went viral for all the wrong reasons. In a heated and shocking outburst, he publicly threatened His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, warning him not to enter Edo State again without seeking “clearance.”

"I can’t guarantee your safety if you come uninvited," he said.

Let that sink in: A sitting governor threatening a fellow Nigerian — a respected national figure — in a democratic republic.

But the embarrassment didn’t stop there.

Soon after the video surfaced, social media users began digging into the governor’s background. And guess what popped up?

A purported WAEC result with scores that make you pause:

Mathematics: F9

English: E8

Government: D7

Biology: F9

While it's true that the authenticity of the result hasn’t been confirmed — and some sources believe it might be doctored — the damage is done. It has sparked a national conversation about the caliber of individuals we hand power to.

And it’s a fair question:

Should someone with such poor academic performance be trusted with the future of an entire state?

🧠 Leadership Should Be Earned, Not Gifted

This isn’t about mocking someone's education. Life is tough. Not everyone has the same opportunity. But when you step into public office, you become a mirror to society. You don’t just carry your past — you carry the hopes of millions.

Instead of being humbled by that responsibility, Monday Okpebholo chose to threaten opposition, bully his way into attention, and act like Edo State is his private property.

We must reject this kind of politics — one where power is wielded by the least prepared and most arrogant among us.

🇳🇬 Nigerians Deserve Better

As 2025 races toward the Edo gubernatorial election, we must ask hard questions:

What values do our leaders embody?

Are they transparent?

Are they even qualified — mentally, morally, and academically?

We can’t afford to sit back and let the worst rise again. We’ve done that for decades, and the price has always been blood, backwardness, and broken dreams.

“Na condition make crayfish bend,” yes — but it’s time we straighten things out.

 If the system won’t fix itself, we the people must.
