2025 WAEC: Only 38% of 1.97m Candidates Pass English and Mathematics

📊 2025 WAEC: Only 38% Pass English and Mathematics

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing a worrying performance trend.

Out of the 1.97 million candidates who sat for the exam, only 38% managed to obtain credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics — the two key subjects required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Education experts have expressed concern over the low pass rate, describing it as a reflection of deeper challenges in the country’s education system, including poor teaching standards, inadequate learning facilities, and low student preparedness.

The council has advised candidates to check their results online via the official WAEC portal and seek guidance on improving their academic performance.
