Land Grabbers Reportedly Led By Conel Eke Invade and Destroy Properties Along Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road, Port Harcourt
Pandemonium erupted last weekend at Victory Estate, along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road, following a violent invasion by armed men reportedly linked to land grabbers led by Col. Ogwumerum Eke and others.
Property owners accused the Rivers State Commissioner of Police (CP) of conniving with the suspected land grabbers to illegally seize over 4,000 plots of land, sparking outrage and fear of a looming bloodbath.
The Allegations
According to residents, repeated invasions have been carried out by individuals identified as:
*Col. Ogwumerum Eke
*Lord C. Nwosu
*Chief Mike (aka Edo 1)
*Chima Providence Dike
and others.
They allegedly arrive with armed cultists under police escort, destroying fences, demolishing buildings, and assaulting property owners.
Eyewitnesses further report that even churches were not spared, with the Dunamis Church being locked up during a service, and worshippers’ phones seized.
Dispute Over Court Judgment
The invaders are said to parade a Customary Court judgment that awarded about 100 plots of land to them in Rumuagholu and not Rumuosi—an entirely different location. The judgment had already been executed.
However, according to a report by the Rivers State Surveyor General dated June 11, 2025 (marked RSS/129/T2/121), a Geospatial analysis confirmed that the disputed lands have no connection to Victory Estate. Residents insist the judgment is being misused to intimidate and dispossess lawful landowners.
Victims Speak Out
A Real Estate Consultant representing 46 affected landowners lamented:
“Our lands and properties have been invaded by individuals led by Colonel Ogwumerum Eke, Lord C. Nwosu, Chima Providence Dike, Chief Mike Oyiakhira (aka Edo 1), and the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State. We urge the general public to exercise caution and avoid any land purchases along Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road due to these illegal activities.”
Legal Battle
The case is currently before a Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt.
Col. Eke, aged 56, is facing 21 count charges including:
*Conspiracy
*Stealing
*Malicious damage of properties worth billions of naira
*Breach of peace
Dez Mayorz News gathered that the disputed land spans over 5,000 plots around the Airport Road axis to Rumuekini, with victims including institutions such as:
*Salvation Ministry Church
*Dunamis Church
*Nigerian Society of Engineers
*Nigerian Pharmaceutical Association
Community Fears
Residents fear that without urgent government intervention, the situation could escalate into widespread violence. Already, over 200 landowners have reportedly fallen victim, with many sustaining injuries and suffering billions in property damages.
One victim, badly injured in the recent attack, joined other property owners to march to the Rivers State Government House to file a fresh petition.
