Rivers State Staff Audit Exposes Major Discrepancies
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.), has revealed the outcome of a recent comprehensive staff and pensioners audit conducted in the state.
According to the report, only 37,703 state staff were verified, compared to the previously recorded figure of over 43,000 civil servants. Similarly, the audit confirmed 19,186 pensioners, a sharp contrast to the earlier record of more than 25,500 pensioners on the state’s payroll.
The revelations point to a significant gap in the civil service and pension records, strongly suggesting the existence of ghost workers and systemic irregularities in the state’s public service.
Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas emphasized that the audit was carried out to promote accountability, transparency, and efficiency in managing Rivers State’s human resources and finances. The findings, he noted, will form the basis for reforms aimed at strengthening governance structures and eliminating fraudulent practices.
Stakeholders believe this exercise is a step in the right direction toward ensuring that only legitimate workers and pensioners benefit from the state’s resources, ultimately leading to better fiscal discipline and improved service delivery.
