Governor Sim Fubara Approves Reconstruction of Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt
In a bold move to revive and strengthen sporting activities across Rivers State, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has approved the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and total renovation of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia (formerly Liberation Stadium) in Port Harcourt.
The project has been officially awarded to Monimichelle Sporting Facilities Construction Nig. Ltd., an indigenous construction giant of international repute, known for delivering world-class sporting infrastructure across Africa.
This initiative underscores Governor Fubara’s commitment to transforming Rivers State into a premier hub for sports and youth development. The 16,000-capacity stadium, which has hosted several continental and international football matches, will soon receive a full facelift – one that aligns with CAF and FIFA standards.
