RIRS Grants Two-Week Extension on Individual Tax Returns, Sets New April 17 Deadline

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of annual personal income tax returns, giving taxpayers across the state additional time to meet their legal obligations.

In a public notice dated April 1, 2026, and signed by the Executive Chairman, Sir Israel O. Egbunefu, the Service confirmed that the deadline for submitting 2025 Year of Assessment returns has now been extended to April 17, 2026.

According to the RIRS, the extension was approved by its Executive Management to improve compliance and allow individuals and businesses who are yet to file their returns ample opportunity to do so without unnecessary pressure.

Who Should File?

The Service emphasized that all taxable persons are expected to comply, including:

• Employees in public and private sectors
• Self-employed individuals
• Business owners
• Professionals

All taxpayers are urged to take advantage of this extension to fulfill their obligations in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act.
